Private tours
A Blue Mountains private tour gives you a driver, a vehicle and a day built around your list rather than an operator’s timetable. Four of the twelve listings on this site are private days, from $757 to $1,109, and every one of them is priced per vehicle rather than per person, which is why families and groups of four book them and why they compare differently from everything else on the page.

Quick answer
A private day costs from $757 for the vehicle, which for four people is about $189 a head — close to a coach fare, with your own driver, hotel pickup and any route you like. The best evidenced private listing here is $889, rated 5.0 by 15 guests, and it adds Wentworth Falls and the Scenic World rides. Go private for a family, for a specific list, or for a day that starts when you want it to.
What the money buys
The route, the clock, and the company.
The route. Every coach and small-group day on this site goes to Echo Point and Scenic World, because that is what most people want. A private day can skip both. It can spend the morning at Wentworth Falls and the National Pass, take the back road through Blackheath to Govetts Leap, and reach Echo Point at four when the coaches have gone.
The clock. A coach day is built around a 07:00 pickup and a 17:30 return. A private day starts when you say, waits while the mist lifts, and stays for the light on the Three Sisters if the light is worth staying for.
The vehicle. Your family, your driver, nobody else. For anyone with a pram, an elderly parent, a photographer’s tripod or a child who needs a stop every hour, this is the difference between a good day and a long one.
Notice what is not on that list: the escarpment. The Jamison Valley looks the same from a minibus as from a private car. What changes is when you stand in front of it and who is standing beside you.
Every trip, current fare
Ordered by fare. The private days sit at the bottom because they are priced per vehicle; divide by the number of seats you fill before comparing.

When a private day is worth five times the fare
And it does pay, in each of these, more often than people expect.
At $757 for the vehicle, four people pay about $189 each. That is within a few dollars of a coach fare, with a car to yourselves.
Wentworth Falls, Blackheath, the Megalong Valley, a specific walk. Coach days go where forty people can go; a private day goes where you ask.
A pram, a wheelchair, a bad knee, a baby. The private listings adjust the pace and the stops; the coaches cannot.
Light on the Three Sisters is best early and late, and a coach is at neither. A private day can be at Echo Point at 08:30 and at Lincoln’s Rock at sunset.
The premium day at $1,109 runs in English or German with a guide, which on a mountain full of place names and stories is worth more than it sounds.
Wentworth Falls, Leura, Echo Point and all three Scenic World rides in a private vehicle from your Sydney hotel — rated 5.0 by 15 guests.
Check dates for the private day with the falls→Four things to settle before you book a private day
Private listings are flexible, which means the details are yours to fix.
On $889 they are. On the others they are usually added on request, so ask, and ask whether it is all three rides.
Most run to six or seven. Above that some operators send a second vehicle at a second price.
Hotel pickup is standard in central Sydney. From the northern beaches or the airport, confirm it and expect a small surcharge.
On some listings the driver waits with the car; on others they walk with you and talk. The premium day includes a guide throughout.
In short
Per vehicle, per head, and who it suits.
Pay $757 for the vehicle if there are four of you and you want the day to yourselves; per head it is close to a coach.
Pay $889 if you want the falls, the rides and the best evidenced private listing on the site.
Pay $1,109 only if you want a guide who walks with you and speaks German, and understand that you are buying the guide rather than a better mountain.
For two people who mainly want the three classic stops, the small-group day at $142 does the same escarpment for a fraction of the price.
Common questions
From $757 per vehicle for a ten-hour day with hotel pickup, to $1,109 for the premium day with a guide.
Per vehicle on every private listing here. Four people at $757 pay about $189 each.
Yes. That is the point of a private day: Wentworth Falls, Blackheath, Leura or Echo Point at whatever hour suits the light.
On the $889 day, yes. On the others they are added on request; confirm when you book.
Usually up to six or seven. Larger parties may need a second vehicle.
Yes. Every private listing here is free to cancel up to 24 hours before.
A private day, as most people build it
Offered as a starting point; every operator here will change it on request.
A private vehicle at the door. With four aboard the driver usually suggests skipping the wildlife park and going straight up, then adding it on the way home if the day has room.
The first lookout on the plateau and the quietest at this hour: the 187-metre falls, the valley opening out, and the start of the National Pass for anyone who wants twenty minutes on a cliff-ledge track.
Leura Cascades, then the village for a coffee on a main street lined with gardens. The coaches are at Echo Point now; you are not.
The Three Sisters when the first wave of coaches has moved on to Scenic World, with time to walk out to the first Sister rather than photograph it from the rail.
All three rides, included on the $889 day and added on request on the others. Or skip it and drive on to Blackheath.
Blackheath’s big lookout over the Grose Valley, or the flat sandstone shelf on Kings Tableland where the afternoon light sits on the escarpment. Neither is on a coach route.
Back at the hotel by half past six, or later if the light at the last lookout was worth staying for. Your driver, your call.
Two people, and whether it still pays
Right for a reason; not for the sound of it.
Two people on the $757 day pay about $379 each. Two people on the small-group day pay $142 each and see Echo Point, the Scenic World rides and a wildlife park in a minibus of twenty. The escarpment is the same. The question is whether the route, the clock and the empty vehicle are worth the difference to you.
For most couples the answer is no, and the small group is the right booking. For some it is yes: a proposal, an anniversary, a photographer with one morning, a parent who cannot manage a minibus step, or a list that includes Blackheath. Those are real reasons, and a private day serves them well.
What we would not do is book a private day for two because it sounds nicer. It is nicer. It is also $237 a head more than a day that carries 1,688 ratings at 4.8, and the Three Sisters do not know the difference.
Three private days, three different operators
Read the operator as carefully as the itinerary.
A city operator that collects at your hotel and drives up. The route is yours; Scenic World tickets are bought on the day if you want them.
Based in the mountains, which shows: local lookouts, the back roads to Blackheath, and a driver who knows where the mist lifts first. Rated 4.5 by its first eight guests.
A guide who walks with you throughout, in English or German, and a premium vehicle. The highest price on this site, and the only listing here that speaks German.
